SETIA MAYURI WELCOME CENTER

Semenyih, Selangor Client : Setia Ecohill Sdn Bhd Year of completion : 2020

Nestled outside Kuala Lumpur, the welcome centre cum sales gallery had to attract the market by being different. It plays host to yet another successful development of 136 bungalows and 318 semi-detached homes of a Bali-inspired design concept of the Setia Mayuri development. Once all the homes are sold, the welcome center will be converted into a clubhouse for home buyers residing in the “Balinese” village.

Sandscape and Grasscrete were chosen for their design potential, ease of maintenance and for their durability. Being the showcase and sales centre, both Sandscape and Grasscrete had to be precisely installed with attention to detail.

The car porch is comprised of a 4” thick slab with a layer of wire mesh reinforcement. The randomly sized panels were cleverly placed to create a mosaic of grays and earthy sand to accentuate the versatility and pliability of concrete in any design that the architect can imagine. The expansion joints colours are matched to the colours of the panels.

The pedestrian ramp leading to the entrance of the welcome center is in the same Sandscape but scored with groove lines for the occasional wheelchair. Neat rows of grass and concrete, Grasscrete using the single use plastic formers GC1 (4”H) graced the parking areas giving a greener and airy resort feel to the welcome centre/sales gallery.

A solid centre was proposed to create a variation to show a purposely designed Grasscrete instead of the ordinary run of the mill installation. In the words of the architect, “Grasscrete is fit for its purpose, product quality control and durability and ease of maintenance and the grass is actually growing!”
